Freshers & Kickstart Week at CampusKey: Where You Make Your Mark

At CampusKey, every student arrives with something powerful, a story, a voice, a dream.

Some arrive nervous. Some arrive confident. Some arrive still figuring it all out. That’s exactly why Freshers & Kickstart Week exists. Because at CampusKey, we don’t just hand over keys. We ignite potential. Whether you’re a first-year stepping into independence for the very first time, or a returning student coming back stronger than ever, 2026 is your year to MAKE YOUR MARK, and you’re not starting it alone.

Why We Do Freshers & Kickstart Week

Starting university is one of the biggest transitions in a young person’s life. New city. New friends. New responsibilities. New freedom. It’s exciting, but it can also be overwhelming.

Freshers & Kickstart Week is our intentional welcome programme designed to help students settle into university life with confidence, clarity and connection. It’s about building community from day one, re-energising returning students, and making sure every single resident understands that they belong here. We believe student accommodation should be more than a room. It should be a launchpad. And that launchpad begins with connection.

How We Bring It to Life

From the moment students arrive, the tone is set. Our CampusKey team introduces themselves, making it clear who to contact, where to go, and who’s got your back for any question, big or small Support isn’t hidden behind doors. It’s visible, accessible and human.

Then we break the ice properly.

Speed Friending ensures that every fresher sits across from another fresher who is starting their journey at the exact same time. No one is left standing alone. Friendships don’t happen by accident, we design moments for them to begin.

We turn important information into experiences. Community guidelines and “how-to” essentials come to life through interactive scavenger hunts and a Kahoot Quiz Night, where students learn what it means to be part of CampusKey, in a way that feels engaging, not intimidating. Because understanding expectations should empower you, not overwhelm you.

Then we take things beyond the building. Our “Explore Your City” Amazing Race-style adventure introduces students to local hotspots and hidden gems. University isn’t just about lectures; it’s about discovering the spaces that will become your favourite coffee shop, study corner or Friday afternoon unwind spot.

And then comes the heart of it all. The “Make Your Mark” vision board. A bold, collaborative space where students write their names, goals and intentions for the year ahead. It’s a reminder that your journey here matters. Your goals matter. You matter.

Of course, we celebrate too. From suspense-filled Murder Mystery Nights to open summer-style Sizzle, Sip & Splash events and then… we go big. The Kickstart Party is our headline moment. Our annual, high-energy celebration that officially launches the year. Live DJs. Themed lighting. Packed social spaces. Music that carries through the building. A room full of students who walked in as strangers just days before.

More Than Orientation — It’s Community Building

Freshers & Kickstart Week isn’t just a series of events. It’s the foundation of CampusKey culture.

It’s where first-years build confidence.

It’s where returning students reconnect.

It’s where strangers become friends.

It’s where community begins.

Across all CampusKey locations in South Africa, this programme sets the tone for the year, reinforcing that everyone contributes to the CampusKey journey. Every voice adds value. Every personality adds colour.

We celebrate uniqueness, while reinforcing one simple truth:

You belong here.

2026: Make Your Mark

“Make Your Mark” isn’t just a theme for Freshers Week. It’s a mindset.

It’s the reminder that you don’t have to be perfect to start. You don’t need everything figured out. You don’t need to be fearless.

You just need to begin.

And when you begin at CampusKey, you begin surrounded by connection, celebration and community.

From fresher to fourth-year, from first hello to final exam, this is your year. Your year to grow. Your year to connect. Your year to make your mark. And we’ll be right here with you.
