First Semester Recap: Six Months of Big Wins, Bigger Energy, and Unforgettable Moments

The first half of the year at CampusKey has been nothing short of incredible. From welcoming new students and reconnecting with familiar faces to launching exciting new upgrades and creating spaces that inspire connection, growth, and success, every month brought something worth celebrating.

At CampusKey, every touchpoint is an opportunity to create meaningful experiences and build a stronger student community. Here’s a look back at some of the standout moments that made our first semester one to remember.

January: Freshers Week & Check-In Energy

The year kicked off with one of our favourite traditions, Freshers Week. Across all our buildings, the excitement was real as students checked in, unpacked, met new friends, and started preparing for an unforgettable year ahead.

From smooth arrivals to welcome activities and community vibes, January was all about helping students feel at home from day one. New friendships were formed, support systems were built, and our residences came alive with energy again.

February: Kickstart Week & The Ultimate Welcome Back

February brought the return of our rebookers and the official start of the academic year with Kickstart Week and our legendary Kickstart Party.

It was the perfect mix of motivation, connection, and celebration, helping students reset their goals, get inspired, and ease back into campus life. From social events to community-building activities, the month reminded everyone that student life is about more than just lectures and assignment, it’s about belonging.

March: Solar Success & Room Upgrades

March was a huge month for CampusKey innovation and improvement.

Not only did all CampusKey buildings officially go LIVE on solar power, but we also completed our CK Shortstay upgrades in our Cape Town building. So if you’re planning that Cape Town holiday we’ve got the perfect spot for you!

These upgrades reflect our commitment to creating smarter, more sustainable, and more comfortable spaces, ensuring every space feels modern and functional.

April: Social Space Upgrades in Gqeberha & Cape Town

Community is at the heart of the CampusKey experience, and in April we levelled up our social spaces in Gqeberha and Cape Town.

These upgraded areas were designed to create even better spaces for students to connect, collaborate, relax, and recharge. Whether it’s catching up with friends, studying together, or taking a break between classes, the refreshed social spaces brought new energy to everyday student life.

May: New Meeting Pods Launch in Cape Town

In May, our Cape Town building introduced brand-new meeting pods, giving students dedicated spaces for focused work, online meetings, group discussions, and collaborative sessions.

The addition reflects how student needs continue to evolve, especially in a world where flexibility, productivity, and hybrid learning environments matter more than ever. The pods quickly became a favourite feature for students balancing academics, projects, and campus life.

June: Red Bull 24-Hour Study Nights

As exams approached, June brought one of the most exciting events of the semester, our Red Bull 24-hour Study Nights.

Students came together for the final exam push with energised study spaces, community support, and the motivation needed to power through late-night revision sessions. The atmosphere was focused, uplifting, and full of determination as everyone worked toward finishing the semester strong.

Here’s to the Second Semester

From unforgettable events and exciting upgrades to meaningful community moments, the first semester reminded us what makes CampusKey so special the people, the energy, and the shared experience of student life.

And the best part? We’re only getting started.

Here’s to an even bigger second semester filled with new memories, new opportunities, and more moments that make CampusKey feel like home.

CampusKey Facilities FAQ: Everything You Need to Know About Student Living

When students search for the best student accommodation in South Africa, the questions usually go beyond just the room. It’s about the full experience, the facilities, the convenience, and how your day-to-day life will actually feel.

At CampusKey, that experience is intentionally designed. From smart room layouts to social spaces and all-inclusive living, everything is built to support student life in a way that feels effortless.

If you’ve already explored CampusKey, you’ll know it’s about more than just “free Wi-Fi and really good coffee” it’s about creating an environment where students can live, study, and connect in one place. Below, we break down the most frequently asked questions about CampusKey facilities so you know exactly what to expect.

Is parking available at CampusKey?

Yes, parking is available at most CampusKey locations! It works on a first come, first serve basis so be sure to add parking when you apply for your room to secure your spot. Limited bays available!

Parking is often one of the first things students ask about especially in busy student cities. Because CampusKey buildings are located close to major universities, many students choose to walk or cycle, but if you are bringing a car, applying early is key to securing a bay.

Does CampusKey provide me with meals?

No, CampusKey does not provide meals to students. However, our students have the facilities and choice to cook either in their own room, or together with friends and fellow students in the shared kitchens. 4 of our locations also boats with an on-site cafe, CK mini, where students can pickup hot coffee and fresh lunches.

This setup is intentional. CampusKey is designed to give students independence while still creating opportunities for connection. Whether you’re cooking solo or hosting a pasta night with friends, the shared and private kitchen options allow you to choose your vibe.

Will my room be cleaned?

Only our Platinum Room Types include weekly cleaning of their rooms. For the other rooms, the students are responsible for cleaning their individual rooms.

This ties into the different room experiences CampusKey offers. As highlighted in We’ve got the perfect room for every student”, each room type is designed around how you want to live whether that’s fully independent, slightly social, or more serviced and hands-off.

Are there storage space for my bags or suitcases in my room?

Yes. There is storage space in your room, under your bed and on top of your wardrobe.

CampusKey rooms are designed with functionality in mind. It’s not just about aesthetics it’s about making sure your space actually works for student life. Smart storage means less clutter and more room to focus, relax, or host your friends.

Does CampusKey offer on-site laundry facilities?

CampusKey has on-site self-help laundry facilities on each campus, operated by pre-paid washer and dryer tokens.

Having laundry on-site is one of those small conveniences that makes a big difference. It means no extra trips, no wasted time just easy, accessible living within your building.

Does CampusKey offer on-site laundry facilities?

Where do I store my bicycle?

We are bicycle friendly! Bicycles can be stored in the secure biometric access bicycle shed provided at each campus.

Safety and accessibility go hand in hand at CampusKey. With secure access systems and designated storage spaces, students can move around freely while knowing their belongings are protected.

Is there a gym?

Yes, all CampusKey students have access to a private, fully equipped, on-site gym which is open 24/7 so that they can keep their body healthy and happy. Healthy body, healthy mind!

This is part of a bigger focus on student wellbeing. As explored in What are the benefits of living at CampusKey?, having spaces that support both physical and mental health is essential during your university years.

Is there a gym?

Will I have a TV in my room?

All Independent One Bed and Explorer room types have a LED TV in their room. To see a detailed description of what is included in your specific room, please visit our website.

Choosing the right room type matters. Some students prefer complete privacy, while others enjoy shared living. CampusKey’s different room options are built around these preferences giving you the freedom to choose what suits your lifestyle best.

What about my courier deliveries?

We love receiving and keeping your packages safe for you. You may have your packages delivered to the CampusKey office. Your friendly Front of House will notify you when your package has arrived.

This is where CampusKey’s hospitality approach really comes through it’s not just about facilities, but about making everyday life easier.

More than just facilities: The CampusKey experience

While these FAQs cover the essentials, the real value of CampusKey lies in how everything comes together.

Facilities are just one part of the bigger picture. What really sets CampusKey apart is the combination of:

  1. All-inclusive living (no surprise bills)
  2. Purpose-built student spaces
  3. Community-driven experiences and events
  4. A balance between independence and connection

As highlighted in the CampusKey benefits article, it’s this combination that helps students not just live but thrive.

CampusKey facilities are designed to remove the friction from student life so you can focus on what actually matters.

Whether it’s having a gym downstairs, secure bike storage, or simply knowing your packages are taken care of, every detail is built around convenience, safety, and community.

Ending the year, 2025, with a bang!

The Ultimate Team Sprint and Golden Hour Ball wasn’t just another company event, it was a full-day reflection of what CampusKey culture looks like in motion: fast, collaborative, human, and worth celebrating.

The day started in sprint mode. But this wasn’t a boardroom strategy session. It was an Amazing Race–style brand training designed to pull teams out of their comfort zones and into real-time collaboration. Across our Cape Town building, teams moved through high-energy challenges that tested communication, creativity and their understanding of the CampusKey brand.

Every checkpoint demanded quick thinking and shared leadership. Under pressure, teams had to apply what CampusKey stands for, unreasonably good hospitality, 5-star service and genuine connection, not in theory, but in action. It turned brand values into something physical and lived, reinforcing that culture isn’t something you read about. It’s something you practice.

The race was loud, competitive and full of momentum. But beneath the fun sat something important: alignment. The sprint reminded everyone that CampusKey operates best when people move together, trust each other and lean into collective strengths. By the final challenge, teams weren’t just exhausted, they were sharper, more connected and fully energised.

As the sun dropped, the pace softened and the tone shifted from adrenaline to appreciation.

The Golden Hour Ball marked a moment to exhale. Under table mountain and dressed for celebration, the team gathered to recognise the people behind the progress. The Team Achievement Awards honoured individuals for their years of dedication to CampusKey, milestones that represent loyalty, growth and the quiet work that builds strong foundations over time.

Together, the sprint and the ball captured the full rhythm of the company: push forward with intention, then pause to acknowledge the people who made that progress possible. Growth paired with gratitude. Energy balanced by reflection.

Ending the year this way felt deliberate. A day that strengthened the brand from the inside out, followed by an evening that honoured the humans carrying it forward. A reminder that CampusKey moves fast, but never forgets to celebrate who’s running alongside us.

And that’s exactly the kind of momentum worth taking into what comes next.

Digital Detox: Why Unplugging Is Your Power Move

Life as a student today is lived through a screen. Lectures online. Notes on your phone. Scrolling between study breaks and streaming to wind down. Staying connected is easy—but so is burning out. The constant digital overload can leave you feeling drained, distracted, and more disconnected than ever.

At CampusKey, we believe the real flex is knowing when to log off—that’s where a digital detox comes in.

What Happens When You’re Always Online

The mental effects of too much screen time are subtle but real. You feel wired but tired, overstimulated but disconnected. It disrupts your focus, sleep patterns, and social energy. Physically, it can cause headaches, sore eyes, and poor posture—not ideal for exam season or even day-to-day life.

But the most significant cost? You miss out on the present. On real connections, clarity, and the kind of recharge that doesn’t come from scrolling.

The Reset You Didn’t Know You Needed

Taking a step back from your devices—even just for a few hours—can reset your system, leading to better sleep, clearer thinking, and sharper focus. You start engaging with your world more intentionally. You notice things—like how good a sunset looks without a filter, or how a chat with a friend over coffee hits different when your phone’s on silent. It’s not about going off the grid. It’s about building moments into your week where you can unplug and reconnect with what matters.

How CampusKey Makes It Easy

Our spaces are built for balance. Need to hit pause on the scrolling and focus up? Our study zones are distraction-free and made for deep work—no endless tabs or TikTok rabbit holes. Want to swap screen time for sweat time? Our fully equipped gyms are open 24/7, so you can reset with a quick session anytime, day or night.

Looking for some real connection? Head to one of our rooftop lounges, social areas, or chill zones. Whether you’re joining a connection, having a spontaneous game night, or just catching up with your roommates, our shared spaces are perfect for unplugging without isolation.

You don’t have to give up tech to take care of your mind. You need to find a rhythm that lets you be online and in the moment.

Start Small, Stay Consistent

Try switching off all screens an hour before bed. Put your phone away during meals. Leave it in your room while studying. Use tools like Screen Time or app blockers to stay in control. Start with a few hours a week, and build from there.

And you’re up for it—go bold. Try a full-day digital detox: no screens, no stress, just real moments and actual rest. Your mind and body will thank you.

Live Fully, Not Just Online

At CampusKey, we’re here to support more than just your academics; we’re here for your whole experience. From the study spaces that help you focus, to the gyms that help you move, and the social events that make memories, you’re already surrounded by everything you need to recharge.

So take the break. Switch off to switch on because the best parts of student life are happening right in front of you.

Mid-Year Reset: How to Reboot Your Student Life (Without Changing Your Major)

So, it’s June. You’ve survived O-week, 53 deadlines, 3 existential crises, and at least one group project where you did all the work. Congrats. But now what?

Mid-year is that magical time where you either keep thriving… or accidentally binge 7 seasons of a show “as a treat” and forget what sunlight is. If you’re in need of a fresh start (without doing something drastic like changing your major or becoming a travel influencer), this one’s for you.

Let’s talk student life mid-year reset—CampusKey style.

1. Do a “Soft Reboot” on Your Routine

We’re not saying you need to wake up at 5AM and do cold plunges. But switching up your morning playlist or finally using that planner you bought in February? Game changer.

Hot tip: Move your study sesh to a new CK space—switch from your room desk to a communal study area or even CK Mini Café. A new view = new vibe.

2. Change Your Coffee Order. Seriously.

You know how you’ve been ordering the same iced vanilla latte since orientation? Be brave. Try the flat white. Or a hot chocolate. Shake things up at CK Mini and see how that one small switch powers a whole new era.

Bonus: If your barista knows your name and your order, you’re already 67% more productive. Science*.

(*Not real science, but we believe it.)

3. Set One Tiny Goal—and Actually Do It

Forget 10-point plans or colour-coded charts. Just choose one thing: like submitting assignments before 11:59PM, going to the gym twice a week, or finally joining that CK event you keep skipping.

CampusKey makes this easy—our on-site gyms, weekly CKonnections events, and friendly community mean your support system is literally one hallway away.

4. Declutter Your Space (Yes, Under the Bed Too)

If your desk looks like a museum of snack wrappers and abandoned highlighters, it’s time. A clean room = a clear mind. And bonus: all CK rooms are stylish and fully kitted out, so once you do the decluttering, your Pinterest-worthy study space will shine again.

5. Tap Into Your CK Community

Nothing reboots student life mid-year like people who get it. Whether it’s bonding over failed recipes in the communal kitchen, joining a wellness workshop, or playing pool at the Clubhouse—CampusKey is built for connection.

You’re never just renting a room here—you’re stitched into a community.

You don’t need a full personality overhaul. You just need a reset.

  1. Switch up your space.
  2. Mix up your order.
  3. Try one new thing.
  4. And lean into the CK community that’s always got your back.

Because mid-year doesn’t mean burnout. It means plot twist.

What Are the Benefits of Living at CampusKey?

Spoiler: It’s not just the free Wi-Fi. But yes, the Wi-Fi is really good.

Let’s be honest—choosing where to live during your studies can feel a bit like swiping on a dating app. You want something safe, good-looking, easy to talk to, and preferably with snacks nearby.

That’s where CampusKey enters the chat.

Here’s what makes us more than just student accommodation—and why living here might just be your best university decision (after choosing to actually study, of course).

1. Your Room, Your Rules (and Your Private Bathroom)

You know what’s great? Having your own space. You know what’s even better? Not having to line up to shower behind five other people in a shared bathroom.

At CampusKey, you get your own room and yes, your own bathroom. It’s peace, privacy, and the freedom to sing in the shower without judgment.

Unless your walls are paper-thin. Which they aren’t. You’re welcome.

2. The Vibe is Social—but Optional

We’re all for community, good times, and meeting your next best friend at 2am in the Clubhouse. But if you’re more “I’ll join when I’ve recharged socially for three days,” that’s okay too.

CampusKey is as social as you want it to be. There are study spaces, social events, shared lounges, pool tables, ping pong, and people who actually want to meet new people.

Or you can stay in bed, order Uber Eats, and watch Netflix. Also acceptable.

3. Fast Wi-Fi. No, Seriously.

We know everyone says they have “fast Wi-Fi.” But ours is the real deal. Because we understand the heartbreak of buffering halfway through a lecture… or worse, halfway through a TikTok.

At CampusKey, Wi-Fi isn’t just included—it’s a lifestyle. Stream. Zoom. Scroll. Cry over assignments. Repeat.

4. Security So Good, Even Your Mom Will Sleep Better

Living away from home for the first time? Parents low-key panicking? We’ve got it covered.

With facial recognition entry24/7 CCTVbiometric access, and staff who actually care, CampusKey is basically a friendly fortress.

We can’t promise you won’t lose your socks in the laundry, but we can promise you’ll feel safe.

5. A Café That’s Literally in Your Building

Running late for class? Overslept again? No time for breakfast?

Say hello to CK Mini—our very own on-site café serving caffeine, croissants, and comfort. Located just steps from your room (read: slippers optional), it’s the student hack you didn’t know you needed.

6. You Might Just Thrive Here

CampusKey isn’t just a place to crash—it’s a space built to help you live well. We’re big on mental wellness, connection, creativity, and real support when you need it.

Need a quiet space to study? Done. Need a break from studying? Also done.

Need a reminder that you’re doing great? We’ve got you there too.

So… Why Live at CampusKey?

Because uni life is more than textbooks and toaster meals.

Because where you live should be the part of your day you look forward to.

And because once you move in, you’ll wonder why anyone would settle for less.

University Digs vs Private Student Living: 6 Reasons Why Purpose-Built Accommodation Just Makes Sense

Choosing where to live while studying is one of the biggest decisions students (and their parents) make. Whether you’re staying close to home or moving to a brand-new city, the kind of accommodation you choose can have a real impact on your university experience.

While traditional university residences have long been the go-to for many first-year students, private student accommodation (PSA) is growing fast—and for good reason.

Here’s why more and more students are choosing purpose-built private accommodation like CampusKey over standard university housing.

1. Designed With the Student Lifestyle in Mind

University residences often occupy older buildings retrofitted for student living. While that can come with charm, it often means sacrificing modern comfort and functionality.

In contrast, private accommodation providers like CampusKey design their spaces specifically for student life—from layout to tech infrastructure. Think ensuite rooms, high-speed WiFi, modern kitchens, biometric access, and social hubs built for connection.

These aren’t hand-me-down dorms—they’re fully integrated living spaces created for how students live today.

2. Community Without Compromise

University residences tend to focus on quantity—getting as many students in as possible. That can mean crowded kitchens, shared bathrooms, and not much in the way of privacy.

Private student accommodation aims to strike a better balance. At CampusKey, for example, students enjoy the perks of community-driven living—shared lounges, game rooms, gyms, and social events—but with the comfort of their own private space.

You still get the community vibe—without the chaos.

3. More Independence, Still Fully Supported

In traditional uni digs, support often ends at reception. Maintenance might take days, and students are expected to navigate their first year with little day-to-day help.

Purpose-built private residences, however, often offer 24/7 support, on-site staff, and fast maintenance response times. At CampusKey, there’s always someone on hand—whether you need help with your room or just a friendly face.

It’s about building a sense of independence, but with a strong safety net.

4. Better Facilities, Built-In Convenience

Most university halls offer the basics: a bed, desk, shared kitchen, maybe a common area.

Private student accommodation ups the game with features like:

  1. Fully equipped gyms
  2. Laundry services
  3. Study zones
  4. Secure biometric access
  5. On-site cafés (like CK Mini at CampusKey)
  6. Smart TVs and high-speed streaming

It’s not about luxury—it’s about making life easier, so students can focus on what really matters.

5. Wellbeing at the Centre

With the growing pressures of student life, mental health and wellbeing have never been more important.

Purpose-built accommodation providers are more attuned to these needs than ever before. At CampusKey, for instance, everything from building design to event programming is crafted to support student wellness—offering quiet spaces, opportunities to connect, and professional support when needed.

It’s not just accommodation—it’s a lifestyle that supports both academic performance and emotional balance.

6. Greater Choice and Flexibility

University housing can be competitive, limited, and often only available for first-years. Many students are forced to search elsewhere after their first year—often with little guidance.

Private accommodation offers more freedom: various room types, longer-term stays, and consistent quality across years. With CampusKey locations in Stellenbosch, Cape Town, Bloemfontein, and Potchefstroom, students can choose what works best for their lifestyle, their budget, and their future plans.

It’s flexible, consistent, and future-proof.

The Bottom Line

There’s no one-size-fits-all when it comes to student accommodation. University residences can offer a familiar, often social experience—especially for those just starting out. But for students looking for more privacy, comfort, and support, private student accommodation offers a modern alternative.

At CampusKey, we’re proud to offer students the best of both worlds: community, independence, security, and the tools to thrive. Because student life should be more than survival—it should be something to remember.
